[DSL] higher pings?

has anyone been getting higher pings than usual lately?

i've always had about 10-20ms to some servers i connect to daily, after a whole bunch of downtime/weird connectivity, i've noticed pingtimes have gone up to about 50-60ms :(

also, speeds for me have also gone down a bit

320KB/sec dls to 260KB/sec dls

also, i saw a thread regarding intermittent sync in the SJ area, which i also experienced, not sure if its related with this...

Switch from ATT in Woodland, CA?

Considering a switch from ATT dsl service.

Anyone use DSLExtreme in or around Woodland, CA?

I pre-qualified for Elite on the DSLE website but att told me the same thing until I upgraded and then found out I couldn't reach the advertised speeds.

Other options or opinions appreciated.

Thanks

[DSL] I'm less than thrilled with DSLX lately

I've been a DSLX customer for years. And for the most part, I have had good service. I'm on the 6Mb fixed price plan and our RT is like half a block away. Over the last couple months, my connection has been mediocre at best. Way higher ping rates than usual and the connection seems to drop more frequently (twice last week). Today, my speeds were an appalling 2.5Mb down. I reset the modem and speeds seems to be a little more normal. However, some sites are still really slow or do not come up at all. For example, www.speedtest.net never finishes loading and neither does www.macnn.com. Nothing has changed on my network or my phone lines. Same results for wired and wireless computers. What's the deal?

Honestly, I would love to finally get off DSL and get some fiber connection. But... I live in an AT&T area and I do not want their Uverse crap (I love my DirecTV). AT&T is pure evil as far as I'm concerned. :)

Need a line check if possible - new wiring.

Hi All, After years of having excellent DSL service and upgrading to the 6Mb/768 service I now have, I've been periodically experiencing drop outs. What i mean is that the sync light will go out, reset indicating it's resyncing the line, and then sometimes it will take more than ten minutes to sync back up. Most of the time, my line tests at full speed but periodically it's been getting worse. BTW I had the Telco out about 6 months to look at the issue after going through Tier 2 but all that was done is they dropped off a new DSL modem and reconnected the phone pair backwards at my NID. Things appeared to improve after I straightened out the wiring the next afternoon but, it's been getting worse. So, I finally ran my own CAT 6 line from the NID to a whole house DSL filter, and then ran a new CAT 6 line from the DSL filter to my computer room where the DSL modem is. I also reconnected the house wiring to the "Phone" output on the DSL filter so the phone still works as it should. So far I'm very pleased and the line at the moment is very solid. No more static on the phone when I had it all on the old house wiring (which I found out was a bunch of patches and really crappy wiring).

I'm an IT professional and I recently was downloading new OS's from my Technet Plus subscription and I could hardly get a 2GB file to come accross in a matter of days. I can now do it in less then a couple of hours. Let me know if you can take a look at my line just to see what the numbers are coming back.

Thanks, RgrRamjet :)

billing problem - a different one this time

The good news is that it does not involve the credit card # this time.

OK, now for the worse news - it looks like I was wrongly switched to a month-by-month account. I was charged more than the usual amount and went to the dslextreme site to find out what happened. First, there are definite problems with the billing area of the site - error pages would often appear when navigating it.

I never could find an invoice for this incorrect amount. Strangely enough, the most recent invoice is for $0.00 The older invoices are for the correct amount

I did send an email and received an automated response with a ticket #. Problem 2 - I can't find anywhere on the site to look up a ticket.

The "real" response that arrived showed that the rep wasn't paying attention. The rep didn't get the fact that I have always had a yearly account. It doesn't come up for renewal until next month, and this is easily proven. The oldest invoice shows that the DSL service started in December a couple of years back.

I simply don't have the time to waste on hold and debating this over the phone.
I'm right. DSL Extreme is wrong.
I sent another email message in response to the short and incorrect message from the CR

I'm not going to trust that this will solve the issue. My experience has been that I have to bring the issues up here for them to get attention.

I'm sending a PM to the GM so this will be noticed.

Hello, A few months back, I couldnt connect to the internet. So I checked my modem lights: All were the same as when it was working. so I rebooted the modem and same was happening. So I called the tech support line and they gave me the advice that my browser may be corrupt and I should go into a business such as geek squad. So I did as was recommended and everything was fine. So, I came onto my laptop ( Wireless is working for some reason) and found this forum hoping for some help! Please, any help or advice would be wonderfull!

Thanks for reading.

[DSL] Beware the terms of service, I would never recommend them.

 I had the service for over two years, told them I needed to cancel (no longer needed a static IP, was getting a DTV bundle with my new DSL). Was told I couldn't cancel over the phone, not a problem, I sent them a letter.

At no time in the initial contract was it spelled out that the modem was a lease (a link on the website does not count, it should be itemized in the contract, I would have even paid the $99 up front if it was spelled out and weighed it against the other providers). When I called to cancel, I was not notified that I would have to send the modem back.

Only after a month and a half do I get a letter saying I'm delinquent in paying for a modem I did not request in the first place. That's right I told them I already had a modem from Cyberonic when I signed up, they said I had to use theirs because they were not sure if mine was compatible (it was). I'm not even sure if I have their modem anymore, it may be in a green mouse pick-up. Guess I'll find out and plead for them to not charge me if I send it back. Told the "collection's" agent I will be writing the BBB (I was polite, but frustrated), and she said "go ahead".

This is not the way you treat folks, people need to vote with their wallets. Every company seems great if things are working, it is when there are problems when we see what type of company they are.

Sorry for the rant, things need to be very clear when entering into any agreement, buyer beware.

Switching from Verizon FiOS

I am planning on making the switch from Verizon to DSL Extreme fiber service soon, and was just wondering what, if any sort of downtime I can expect. Is the switch 100% automated, or will I be required to disconnect my FiOS service first and then place an order with DSL Extreme? I'm hoping this would just be a simple records/provisioning change, but I wouldn't put it past Verizon to make this more difficult than it should be.

Thanks!

[DSL] higher pings? - ronmexico

my ping times avg. 50 ms. but the problem is when i do a voip test my QoS is always below 50%. during the test the max pause will always somewhere between 200ms-400ms. playing video games on my PS3 is always laggy with dslextreme. watching youtube is awful. im about two hours away from just cancelling and keeping my cable internet. ive called a hunded times and dslextreme always says well youre download and upload speeds look fine and theres nothing they can do. they cant send out a tech b/c "theyre busy and we cant send them out for no reason."

voip test: http://myspeed.visualware.com/voip/
dslextreme should use this test instead of their crappy speed test. then maybe they can see the problem for themselves.
