Port 500

I have opened port 500 in my router but when i try using one of those online port checkers it says it is closed. I opened port 443 as well to check i was doing it right and it said it was open. Any suggestions

Hi there,
1) what is the open port 500 directing to? If the port is open in the router but directing to a PC on which it is closed... then the check may well say it's closed.
2) You have opened UDP port 500 (not TCP port 500), right?
3) does your router have another way of opening port 500? (there may be a separate option labelled something like IPSec pass-through, or VPN pass-through which you need to enable.)
3) failing those points, what is the router (make/model) and firmware revision?

Thanks,
Bob

I am trying to make a vpn tunnel work, i have opened udp port 500. The ipsec tunnel is checked etc. I have two 3com routers at the end of each tunnel, 3CRWER300-73. Firmware 1.00.00.

I am desperate

Sotonblue:
I am thinking you do not need port forwarding if you are using the 3Coms and the VPN initiation and termination devices. Have seen page 110 in your manual??
