| Number port from Fairpoint to Vonage
I'm currently in the process of trying to transfer my number to vonage, and somewhere, the ball is being dropped. I received the email saying the port was complete, and then started noticing incoming calls going to fairpoint's voicemail system several days later, and those incoming calls were not showing up on the vonage account.
I called vonage, the customer support went through the whole script, then finally got them to realize it was nothing on my end that could be causing it. They put in a ticket to the "network engineers". 24 Hours later it was working properly.
Now, fast forward a week later, and incoming calls are now going to the old fairpoint voicemail again. What could be causing this, and where should the finger be pointed? |

| Since it was working before and now isn't, its probably something the Fairpoint did wrong (or didn't do) such as not remove your phone number from their local routing table or port your number back to them.
Is it a problem with all calls or just certain calls (such as local calls going to the Fairpoint voicemail but calls from out of your area and/or cell phone calls go to Vonage)? |

1 edit | reply to whiteyonenh I agree with trekologer's comment.
You are aware of how screwed up Fairpoint is, which perhaps is why you are ditching them to begin with.
Obviously you need to communicate with Vonage, but you should also nag Fairpoint. It probably is a routing table problem.
Trekologer's second paragraph is also important. Have various folks call you to test this out.

It's always fair to point at Fairpoint! |

Oddly, while it was not working last night, it is now working this morning. I'm not quite sure what's going on, but i'll keep checking on it. I have Sprint PCS for cell, and other family members have US Cellular, both have had problems with calling during these times when it doesn't work, as do pretty much any landlines, at least locally. I tend to agree that it's most likely some sort of routing table issue, but not being too much into the technical side of VOIP, I wasn't sure where to point the blame. |

It is now not working properly again. Number port was put in April 17th. |

| Did you ever get this problem resolved? How long did it take, what did you do?
I just got a number ported from Fairpoint to Vonage today, and am not getting all the calls (cells seem to work), people call my cell phone and say the home # just keeps ringing.
I don't expect this to be resolved in a day, but wondering how long before I start to raise a fuss.
Thanks |

Thanks Yes it did get resolved, took several weeks, and several calls to Fairpoint, I also had someone on the forums looking into it. Fairpoint claims that supposedly Vonage submitted the number-port incorrectly, but I highly doubt that, with all the problems with Fairpoint.
Interestingly enough, we had voicemail on the Fairpoint line, and after the line was transferred to Vonage, we lost dialtone at our home from Fairpoint, but incoming calls from Fairpoint lines went to the old Fairpoint voicemail system. This was the main issue, and from what I was told, was basically a back-end configuration issue, where Fairpoint did not properly reconfigure their routing tables to properly route the calls to Vonage.
Like I said, my issue was quite similar to yours, in that basically incoming calls worked for everyone that had phone providers other than Fairpoint. Sprint, US Cellular, Verizon Wireless, and out of state landlines all had no trouble. Have the people that can't contact you call Fairpoint to complain, and I wish you luck. |

Thanks again. |

Strange, with my issue it was callers from Keene, Marlborough, and Peterborough, that I know of that couldn't get through, it was a number port of a Jaffrey number. Either way, good luck. At least your issue seems a little more localized, but in any event, if it's just people within the same exchange, it definitely sounds like a Fairpoint issue if it doesn't get resolved through the weekend. |
