Modem questions

I pose a modem question for AT & T users. From what I know, AT & T provides (then) Speedstream, Netopia and (now) 2 Wire DSL modems and routers. One has heard from many others that it's recommended to use one of these brands on the CT AT & T network. Does it really matter in terms of speed/performance?

I have a Westell Versalink V327W that seems to work very well, and a Zoom X5 as a backup. Also in my possession, which had been given to me is a 2 Wire HG 2700. Few people tell me the 2 Wires and Netopia are much more in closer synchronization with the AT & T network. Is this true? I am curious of what others think. Thank you in advance for any input.

For single user residential service, AT&T used to provide SpeedStream modems, now provides Motorola modems. 2Wire is mostly offered to customers buying the networking option.

Any modem cable of G.Dmt, ATM encapsulation using LLC, and VPI/VCI 0/35 will work with the AT&T Internet Services DSL network. The older SpeedStream modems reportedly do a better job of holding synch on marginal lines than the newer Motorola modems; but I suspect that would not be an issue for most customers.
